271K

In certain contexts, 271 or 271K is used as a code for Holocaust denial or minimization. It references the conspiratorial claim that only an estimated 271,000 Jews were killed in the Holocaust, and that the widely accepted figure of six million deaths was deliberately exaggerated by Jews. The 271,000 figure has been attributed to a document from the International Red Cross housed in the Arolsen Archives — a research center with a vast archive of Nazi-era documents — that lists the number of death certificates issued in some, but not all, concentration camps. Antisemitic conspiracy theorists and authors often cite these documents, selectively pointing out a section from a 1979 document that reportedly lists a partial death toll of 271,301. Today, 271 is used on its own, sometimes in memes or as hashtags, to covertly signal Holocaust denial.
